My ranger
Well yesterday i finally got my ranger to level 20 and got krytan set with max armor, no insignias or runes yet and i wanted to try pvp. I have a problem with every arena, im a huge target for all and i die pretty fast :\ What is my problem? Here is my build:
(im rit secondary)
Troll Urgent
Apply Poison
Broad Head Arrow
Zojun's Shot
Savage Shot
Throw Dirt
Lightning Reflexes
Ressurection Signet
I use a Zelnehlun's Longbow which i got for 1k also. Any tips?

I don't do a ton of pvp but here is my thoughts....1. most people that go into any arnea have max armor and runes on there stuff. 2. BHA is very easy to dodge and in most arenas there is a lot of movment 3. I would take whirling defense over LR 4. It seems like your builed is doing too much multi tasking...i would either go pure interupt or pure degen. Just my thoughts and I am sure this build could work for someone else but i think that is the last point. 5. How good are you at running the build you have?....might just need practice.

Whirling is bad due to recharge, even LR is superior in arena combat. Natural stride is good as it has a fast recharge and allows you to get away as well, and since you've already specced some into WS for troll and apply... Longbow is bad for BHA, try a shortbow or at least a recurve and pointblank them (only for bha). If you have needling shot it would be superior to zojun's as if works nicely with bha. Sounds like you dont have access to gwen skills yet as youve just hit level 20, but if you have access try to get rapid fire and play around with that.

I use a build that is almost exactly the same as the one you have, and I typically don't have any problems.
You should get insignias and runes first of all. I would recommend whatever the best vigor you can afford (though you can just stick with major because 10k more money for +9 hp isn't really worth the money) as well as minor marksmanship, major expertise, minor wilderness survival, and vitae runes for your other pieces.
As for insignias, I would recommend Radiant because you will need the energy for Broad Head Arrow and Apply Poison.
Lastly, a longbow is very bad for BHA rangers because it fires slower than recurve or shortbows and the arrow takes longer to get to the target (giving them more time to dodge). What I do is I use a Silencing Recurve bow of Fortitude to hit them with daze. Once they're dazed, I switch to a zealous shortbow of fortitude. This is because shortbows fire faster than any other bow (excluding flatbows) which is perfect for making sure you get a lot of chances to interrupt the target's spells. With the shortbow, I use lightning reflexes then to speed up my attacks even more while the bow gives back energy through the zealous string.
Also, maybe you should post your attribute distribution too. That can give us something else to help you with if it needs it.

Upon revisiting this thread it occured to me: It could also be that you are in the wrong place at the wrong time. There is a sense you'll develop as a Ranger (some sooner, some later - but were a survivor profession...) that imminent doom is approaching. It's at these times when you'll really want to have Natural stride recharged... and zip about 15 feet away to spam again. I tend to do this well, lessee... about as often as Natural Stride recharges. For some reason the stationary sniper effect is to draw all nearby foes down upon you and the dancing archer avoids this usually.

Longbows are bad for PvP in general. Recurve bows are the best option for any build in PvP.

Except possibly a quick shot build but it's still not a longbow .

Crippling Shot really works that well in the arenas? I've never really considered mobility as important there compared to GvG, Alliance Battles, etc.

When I play a caster class, big guys with hammers always make me want to get pretty mobile.

It also works wonders on runners. And yeah, as mentioned before longbows typically are bad in PvP overall since the good range is outweighed by it's slowish fire rate.

no runes? no insignias? Thats your problem. How much health you got? 450?
If you have less than 550 you're just to easy to kill.
